Information About Hotels in Los Angeles

Los Angeles has a multitude of hotels in and around its downtown area. These vary from the more well-known chains to independently run boutique hotels. Where you stay can depend on the exact location you want (for example, the proximity to certain attractions) and the type of hotel you want -- be it one of luxury or more modest means.

Downtown Luxury Hotels

The downtown Sheraton is next to Macy's Plaza and has more than 480 guest rooms with the Sheraton's trademark bath supplies and "Sweet Sleeper" beds, and free breakfast is available at the Club Lounge. The Radisson Midtown has 240 rooms with two double beds or one king, two restaurants, outdoor deck pool and whirlpool, along with "bed and breakfast" specials for couples.

Medium Hotels

Los Angeles' lower-priced chain hotels are mostly outside the main downtown area. The Best Western Dragon Gate Inn may be the closest, located in LA's Chinatown, just two miles from the LA Live & Grammy Museum. The Ramada Limited is next to Wilshire Park and advertises itself as the "Most Affordable in Downtown Los Angeles," offering in-room hot tubs and free shuttles. Fans of the Holiday Inn will need to head over to Hollywood for the Holiday Inn Express, which features an outdoor heated pool, a health and fitness center and a restaurant where kids eat free with parents.

Small-Chain Hotels

A number of smaller luxury hotel chains choose Los Angeles as one of their locations. The Standard Hotel chain has a hotel downtown and in nearby Hollywood; these hotels, known for their modern architecture and hip decor, feature eight different sizes of rooms and two penthouse sizes with living platform beds and mini-bars. The downtown hotel features a 24/7 restaurant and a rooftop bar. The Millenium Biltmore, located two blocks from Pershing Square, offers rooms and suites up to 500 square feet in size, four restaurants and specials that include romantic and historical packages.

Independent Hotels

A number of independently owned and operated hotels are within the downtown area. The Figueroa Hotel is across the street from the Nokia Plaza and Staples Center and has uniquely designed rooms with double or king-size beds, including five Moroccan-themed suites. The Kyoto Grand Hotel has 21 stories of deluxe rooms and suites and offers special packages with reduced room and parking rates, transit passes and tickets to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. The Kawada Hotel has a European theme with its 116 rooms and offers a downtown deli-style restaurant called the Cherry Pick Cafe.
