Recommended Hotels in Los Angeles

The Beverly Hills Hotel is a gem among historic luxury hotels in Los Angeles.
The oldest and most popular Los Angeles hotels are packed full of Hollywood history, celebrity encounters and luxurious star treatment. These hotels have been home to celebrities or locations for iconic films, creating a legacy beyond room service and amenities to recommend them to guests. From some of the city's oldest hotels in the Downtown area, all the way to the most exclusive Beverly Hills hideaways and beachfront Santa Monica resorts, these Los Angeles hotels will not disappoint even the most discerning guests.

Historic Hotels

For a dash of elegance from the early days of L.A., try the Millennium Biltmore (thebiltmore.com) in downtown Los Angeles. Built in 1923, the Biltmore hosted some early Oscars ceremonies in its grand ballroom and numerous celebrity guests in its rooms. Tour the hotel's Gothic corridors, treat yourself to high tea or swim in a Gatsby-style 1920s art deco pool to relax. The 1933 art deco Georgian Hotel (georgianhotel.com) in Santa Monica is another choice for history and mystery. During prohibition, it was one of the first -- and most popular -- speakeasies along the coast.

Hollywood Hotels

The Sunset Tower Hotel (sunsettowerhotel.com), an art deco legend built in 1929, was home to scores of actors during Hollywood's Golden Era. Although nearly demolished in the 1980s after falling into disrepair, the restored Sunset Tower hosts guests from all over the world. You can venture onto the Sunset Strip and some of Hollywood's entertainment landmarks on foot from here. Visit the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (hollywoodroosevelt.com), home to the very first Oscars ceremony and a well-trodden path for Hollywood starlets from the 1920s and beyond. Still one of the hottest places to see and be seen, the Roosevelt is steps from Graumann's Chinese Theatre and Disney's El Capitan, as well as most of the shopping and sightseeing destinations in Hollywood.

Luxury Hotels

Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows (beverlyhillshotel.com) is one of the Industry's favorite destinations for moving and shaking and deal-making. Located just off the Sunset Strip in Beverly Hills, hotel guests can take complimentary limo rides to Beverly Hills locales. Don't confuse the rather old-fashioned Beverly Hills Hotel with the ever-evolving Beverly-Wilshire (fourseasons.com/beverlywilshire), a larger, more modern Beverly Hills hotel run by the Four Season group. Spa treatments and jaunts to nearby Rodeo Drive are the norm for the hotel's fabulous guests and resident Industry moguls.

Something a Little Different

Downtown offers several off-beat, interesting options for budget travelers. The Standard, a 1960s-futuristic take on hotel branding, has branches in Downtown and Hollywood with bars known to the younger and trendier set as the places to be in L.A. on any night of the week. Hotel Figueroa (figueroahotel.com), another old Downtown standby, takes a completely different approach to boutique hotel branding. With a Moroccan-inspired tiled Spanish lobby, a bar inspired by "Rick's Place" from "Casablanca" and located next door to L.A.'s oldest 24-hour diner, Figueroa mixes African style with inner-city action.
